New Disorders Workgroup Winter Webinar Series Part Three: On the Horizon: A Review of Up and Coming Disorders and the Future of the RUSP

The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) Newborn Screening Technical assistance and Evaluation Program (NewSTEPs) is pleased to announce the final webinar in the New Disorders Workgroup Webinar Series. This three-part webinar series provides updates from programs screening for disorders not currently on the RUPS, both as pilot programs and as components of universal screening. This series ends with a discussion of future disorders that have been nominated for review by the Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborn and Children (ACHDNC) and/or are in current pilots.

This webinar highlights disorders that are on the horizon for RUPS nomination and presents both research and advocacy efforts in expanding newborn screening for additional disorders. This webinar helps programs prepare for potential upcoming disease additions.

Objectives:

At the conclusion of the program, the participant will be able to:

  • Review disorders on the horizon for RUSP nomination
  • Describe current research and pilot activities around these disorders
  • Review Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD) RUSP nomination activities and ScreenPlus pilot activities
  • Discuss future recommendations for RUSP nomination
