Newborn screening programs may have questions regarding the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations and their applicability to newborn screening (NBS) program operations. This resource collection provides guidance documents created by the Minnesota Department of Health to assist NBS programs in understanding their status as a HIPAA covered entity and whether they can obtain protected health information (PHI) from HIPAA covered entities. 

Additionally, the NewSTEPs Short-Term Follow-up Workgroup hosted a webinar in January 2018, discussing HIPAA issues related to newborn screening.
